We are looking for a superstar Director – Analytics, Monitoring and Evaluation to lead a high-performing function at the centre of how the Ministry builds and shares evidence about New Zealand's diverse Ethnic Communities. If you're a strategic leader with strong experience leading data teams and someone who can connect evidence, trends and technical work into a clear story , then we'd love to hear from you.
This is a high‑visibility Tier 3 leadership role with influence across the public sector, and a key part of the Ministry's senior leadership group.
As Director you will:

- Work collaboratively with senior leaders across government to build a strong evidence base, unlocking data, sharing findings and improving the system's overall understanding of Ethnic Communities' experiences.
- Support and empower a small and very impactful technical team to deliver clear and useful insights that people can easily understand, including communities, policy practitioners and other non-technical audiences.

What you will bring:
- Extensive leadership experience in the New Zealand public sector, or a comparable overseas context in a similar role, including at least five years experience managing teams.
- Be a confident advisor to senior leaders and the Minister, clearly explaining what the evidence is telling us, why it matters, and making analytics and insights straightforward and meaningful for decision‑makers.
- Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing teams that can communicate effectively, collaborate with stakeholders, interpret technical information, provide advice and insights from data, and presentations.
- The capability to support high standards for data quality and evidence integrity so the team's work remains credible and decision-ready.
- The know-how to influence change and uplift organisational maturity in research, statistical analysis, and insights development.
