Job Description

What you will do

Are you a qualified carpenter who wants to see adult learners grow and develop their carpentry skills?

Based in Linont, you will be instructing classes of military personnel who range from new learners just starting their engineering career up to those who are at the top end of gaining their trade certification.

The primary focus of this position encompasses the preparation and delivery of lessons for carpentry courses and the delivery of lessons for other trade related courses when required.  This includes basic administration, management, supervision and performance reporting of up to 12 carpentry students whilst they attend the carpentry courses. 

What we need
 
We are seeking a qualified carpenter who has experience in providing theoretical and practical training to adult students.  You will be able to plan, coordinate and manage works tasks without supervision. 

You are a confident communicator and as an experienced instructor you can work with a diverse range of learning types, and able to adapt your teaching style to your audience.

An Advanced Trade Certificate in Carpentry or National Certification in Construction (Supervisors) Level 5, First Aid Certificate, Site-Safe passport, NZQA Certificate in Adult Education and Training Level 4 or equivalent, and Licensed Building Practitioner (Carpentry) are all desirable.

Good computer skills within the Microsoft Office Suite are needed.

The School of Military Engineering (SME) is part of NZ Army's Land Operations Training Centre in Waiouru and is a military engineering training and teaching facility based in Linton Camp. SME provides a range of military engineering courses and construction trade apprentice training to military personnel within NZ and overseas.

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
