About the role
As a visual designer working within the Communications and Engagement team, you'll be the Commission's go-to visual expert, leading design thinking, elevating our visual identity, and crafting compelling visual communications that help build trust, connection, and confidence in the Public Service Commission.
This is your chance to own our visual identity end-to-end: from concept to production and delivery across digital, print, presentations, infographics, and more. You'll work closely with teams across the Commission, turning complex ideas into simple, engaging, high‑quality design.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- A skilled, intuitive designer with strong Adobe Creative Suite capability
- Confident managing multiple projects and producing polished, professional work
- Able to translate strategy into impactful visual storytelling
- Collaborative, adaptable, and great at building relationships
- Curious, creative, and committed to continual improvement
- Keen to grow or apply Te Ao Māori design perspectives
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead end‑to‑end design projects – from concept to delivery across digital, print, presentations, and infographics.
- Shape and protect our visual identity, championing brand standards and ensuring consistent, high‑quality outputs across the Commission.
- Provide expert design advice to colleagues across the organisation on layout, usability, accessibility and best‑practice communication design.
- Build strong relationships with teams across the Commission and the wider Public Service to lift design capability and collaboration.
- Manage workload independently, delivering high‑quality work under pressure and meeting deadlines.

Salary
The full salary range for the band is $107,146 to 143,313. We typically look to appoint to role between $107,146 to $130,507, depending on skills and experience.
