Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

As a business unit within the Commission, Leadership Development Centre (LDC) is the primary delivery vehicle for system-wide leadership development.   

 

We are looking for a capability specialist to lead a small but highly skilled team working with chief executives, leaders and agencies to support the development of our leaders. The role works closely with others across the Commission and in agencies to target development opportunities to the right leader at the right time. To do this means knowing our leaders, knowing the public service and understanding the levers for lifting capability.  

 

Are you

  • a capability specialist, with experience lifting capability through a variety of interventions, and experience to pick the right solution for the presenting context
  • a qualified coach, with depth and breadth of experience to draw on, and able to hold the space with our most senior leaders. 
  • a relationship builder with strong knowledge of the current talent management tools used across the public service.

 

Do you have?

  •  Relevant advanced tertiary qualification or significant specialist experience supplemented by specialist qualifications in relevant technical area (for example executive coaching).
  •  Depth and breadth of experience building capability in executive leadership, including experience coaching for development and applying a range of tools and frameworks used in best practice.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the current state of talent management and leadership development in the public service, the aims of the Public Service Act and priories for workforce reform
  • Previous experience analysing data and putting forward recommendation for interventions based of data as well as sound judgement in using intel gathered from other evidence sources
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships within and across the public service at senior levels, including to engage with and understand different stakeholder's interests, and the ability to influence and persuade
  • Effective planning and organisational skills, including time management and prioritisation work in a results-focussed environment

 

About the team:

As a business unit within the Te Kawa Mataaho, Public Service Commission, LDC is the primary delivery vehicle for system-wide leadership development. This role will lead our team and our thinking on how we work with individual leaders, how we target their development, how we know which development program is right for them, how we support them when they are on the learning edge.

Salary

The full salary range for the band is $131,082 to $182,923. We typically look to appoint to role between $131,082 to $160,705, depending on skills and experience.
