Are you a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of ministerial and executive processes, and a passion for public service?

We have a fixed term or secondment opportunity for an experienced Advisor to join the Ministerial and Executive Services (MAES) team at Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission.

This role supports the delivery of efficient and high‑quality ministerial and executive services to the Commission and its stakeholders. The MAES team is also the Commission's key point of contact with the Office of the Minister for the Public Service and Digitising Government.

Te Kawa Mataaho leads the public service to make a positive difference for Aotearoa New Zealand and New Zealanders. As the steward of the public service and home of the Office of the Head of the Public Service, we set direction, role model what good looks like, and support the system to deliver the results and services that matter most.

This opportunity offers a great opportunity to join a close‑knit, supportive, and high‑performing team, broaden your experience, and continue to build your capability in a fast‑paced, high‑trust environment. You'll work alongside colleagues who are highly collaborative, delivery‑focused, and committed to continuous improvement.

About the role

As an Advisor in Ministerial and Executive Services, you will:

  • Provide high‑quality advice and coordination to support ministerial and executive processes
  • Work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across the Commission
  • Contribute to a small, agile team with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Build your experience in handling sensitive information and complex issues at the centre of government

To be successful in this secondment, you will bring:

  • Experience working in a Ministerial Services team, Minister's office, or Chief Executive's office, with confidence engaging and advising senior leaders
  • Strong organisational skills, initiative, and a collaborative approach
  • The ability to build effective working relationships across the Commission
  • Clear, trusted written and oral communication skills
  • Experience drafting Official Information Act responses, ministerial correspondence, including Written and Oral Parliamentary Questions, and select committee material
  • A sound understanding of the Official Information Act and experience managing complex and sensitive information
  • A commitment to high standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a continuous improvement mindset

This opportunity would suit an experienced Advisor who is a quick learner, enjoys working in a dynamic environment, and is motivated by making a meaningful contribution to public service outcomes.
