Job Description

What you will do
 
NZDF's Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Branch is totally unique; we are entrusted to deliver and support the Defence technology that helps keep New Zealanders safe. CIS Branch procures ICT products and services of significant value from ICT vendors. Effective management of these vendors is essential, and as the Senior Commercial Manager, reporting to the Business Services Manager, you will be the key connection point between NZDF and your assigned ICT vendors.
 
You will be responsible for the management of commercial aspects (including developing strategies and roadmaps), playing a pivotal role in building effective relationships with both NZDF stakeholders and our vendors to ensure that requirements and expectations are managed on both ends. This role will see you providing commercial management support to our complex and high value/high risk vendor relationships and act as the first escalation point for any issues relating to vendor governance and performance. Also, as a senior member within the team, you'll be a go-to person on processes and proactively support team members with coaching and mentoring as required.
 
What we need
 
Coupled with your education and practical experience, you will demonstrate a pro-active approach with the ability to understand the business, identify issues and develop relationships to achieve the branch's objectives.
 
When applying please focus on highlighting your specific experience with:

  • Knowledge and skills in vendor and contract management in the ICT sector;
  • A sound understanding of procurement practices;
  • Understanding of the government rules of sourcing;
  • Ability to deal with complex organisational issues and to apply problem solving techniques;
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring colleagues and junior staff members.  

You possess not only the above mentioned knowledge but also a softer skillset to listen, empathise, explain, advise, influence and negotiate. Experience working within an Agile environment is highly desirable – or at least an understanding of Agile methodologies.

We expect to appoint around the midpoint of the salary band for this role which is $110k - $117k inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution. This may be negotiable depending on experience.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
