Senior DevOps Engineer (Technology Specialist L2) – Cloud Operations - Preferable Wellington based

The opportunity - Ara Whiwhi Mahi

The Cloud Operations function is part of the Technology Services group. The function ensures the integration across IR's primary service components, systems, cloud services and data centres, and works with our business stakeholders and key suppliers to ensure that all our technical services operate efficiently and effectively.

You will enable our customers and people to use our Cloud Operations services effectively, by ensuring core tax and policy Infrastructure services are designed, built, deployed and operated safely and securely. You will ensure these services are effectively integrated with our private cloud, public cloud and managed cloud services.

In this varied role you will:

  • maintain a technical architectural overview of the service technical components especially across the infrastructure tiers, service integration patterns, the different infrastructure tiers supporting those services and patterns, and the policies that govern integration
  • ensure the technical documentation for design, architecture and future roadmaps is maintained up to date
  • work with our service partners, to assist in optimising service performance and provide operational effectiveness and efficiencies
  • develop and enhance partner and vendor relationships, dealing with complex technical issues and making quality decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • provide technical project governance for infrastructure projects and draft and present these to the customer

About you - Mōu

You will be a strong technology specialist who excels at both analytical and system thinking and have in-depth knowledge of the end-to-end service lifecycle. You will have a high level of understanding and credibility within an operational ICT environment encompassing different technologies. You are a natural problem-solver and can comfortably advise both the business and technical support teams on complex technical issues that may arise, ensuring that risks are identified and mitigated. You will be highly organised and focussed on results to achieve optimal results for the organisation.

To be successful in this position you will need to bring to the role:

  • Proven experience with multi-cloud such as AWS, Azure and Oracle with a focus on networking in cloud and technical integration patterns
  • Proven experience with managing deployment and support of SaaS applications from integration and identity management perspective
  • Mastery of all DevOps specifications including running product management model and the use of AI for infrastructure automation and DevOps
  • Extensive experience in IT infrastructure and operations, with a focus on cloud technologies
  • Proven track record in vendor management, cloud governance, automation and cost optimization (FinOps)
  • Proven experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and source code management. Experience with tools like Terraform and GitHub is highly desirable
  • Experience providing technical leadership, advice, and input into services, working collaboratively with other Technology Specialists to ensure integration integrity between services
  • Experience assessing and reviewing detailed technical integration designs to assist the various projects achieving objectives
  • Experience in performing root cause analysis of high severity incidents and problems, leading and advising technical teams working on resolving high severity issues when needed, and collaborating with Major Incident and Problem Management teams to ensure issues are addressed, prioritised, and resolved within the agreed SLA's
  • 3+ years' experience in a similar position
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer technology or engineering with excellent coding skills
