The Government of Niue is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Chief Medical Officer / Surgeon to provide clinical leadership and specialist surgical services across Niue's health system.

Reporting directly to the Director of Health, this pivotal leadership role is responsible for strengthening clinical governance, enhancing patient safety and quality standards, developing medical capability, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services for the people of Niue. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on clinical practice, offering a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact at both organisational and community levels.

About the Role

As Chief Medical Officer / Surgeon, you will:

• Provide clinical leadership across medical, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, sonography and physiotherapy services.
• Lead clinical governance initiatives with a strong focus on quality improvement, patient safety and best practice.
• Develop and implement clinical policies, protocols, and service improvements to meet the evolving health needs of the population.
• Provide expert clinical and medico-legal advice to support decision-making and service delivery.
• Mentor, develop, and support medical staff through performance management and professional development initiatives.
• Deliver specialist surgical services and contribute to the medical on-call roster.
• Maintain a balance of approximately 60% clinical duties and 40% leadership and management responsibilities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A recognised medical qualification and current practising certificate.
• At least five years' experience as a vocationally registered medical specialist.
• Advanced surgical expertise and demonstrated clinical excellence.
• Experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, and healthcare leadership.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills.
• A collaborative leadership style with a commitment to mentoring and developing others.
• Sound judgement, integrity, adaptability, and a patient-centred approach.
