Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to provide high-quality support to David Clark, MP in his Dunedin office. This position offers real variety and is a key part of the electorate team.

The role

This is a multifaceted role and will see you developing and executing an overarching communications strategy that will include: drafting and designing newsletters and newspaper columns; photo and video capturing, assisting with drafting speeches and briefings; using design skills and Adobe Creative Suite templates to produce advertisements and other materials; engaging with the local community via Twitter and Facebook; organising programs of visits and events and reaching out to local communities to identify their concerns and interests.

About you

You're a people person, team player and word smith, have creative flair and an eye for detail. You've got a firm grasp of the current political landscape and where the Dunedin North electorate sits within it. You appreciate the sometimes unpredictable nature of this environment and instead of letting it faze you, you thrive on it - putting your proactive, calm, and flexible personality to good use. You're well organised and able to switch easily between the various aspects of this role. You're happy to work autonomously and are well known for your resilient and unflappable nature.

Parliamentary Service is focussed on excellence and innovation and we are interested in you if you have highly developed communication skills, resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Our ideal person will have knowledge of the political environment and parliamentary procedure.

This role is for 20 hours per week. Some flexibility to work outside of standard business hours will be required for this role as you will be required to accompany your MP or capture stories on behalf of your MP.

This is an events-based, fixed-term role linked to the term of the Member of Parliament.

Applications close Monday, 21 January 2019.
