Job Description

Working alongside Marama, you will enjoy a fast paced and varied role.

The purpose of this role is to enable Marama to be effective in fulfilling the responsibilities to the public of New Zealand, particularly with her responsibility as a Co-leader Member of Parliament.

While no two days will be the same, some of your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide research and briefings on specific issues, analyse and summarise data and determine appropriate course of action
  • Manage the office work-flow to ensure a seamless operation, including diary management and meeting coordination
  • Manage and reporting of the budget and expenses
  • Write and develop written questions and Official Information Act requests
  • Track relevant legislation and manage documentation relating to parliamentary process
  • Assist in communicating in online forums and on social media
  • Assist in portfolio research and on portfolio issue campaigns in areas like animal welfare and clean energy
  • Manage queries and any issues raised by constituents
  • Monitor newspapers and websites for issues of interest or concern

To be successful in this role, you should have a keen eye for the political landscape and a knack for taking everything in your stride. You will have been described as someone who builds relationships with ease, is self-managing and is calm under pressure. Given the pace of this role, you will need to come armed with previous research, analytical and coordination experience.

This role is for 40 hours per week. Some flexibility in hours may be required, particularly when the House is sitting. This is an events-based, fixed-term role linked to the Member of Parliament.
