Would you like to play a part in supporting New Zealanders who travel or live overseas?

Are you someone who:

• Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills?

• Would enjoy helping New Zealanders who are in difficulty in other countries?

• Wants to be part of New Zealand's planning for, and response to, emergencies overseas?

• Has good judgement, and can provide sound advice in stressful or demanding situations?

We are recruiting two Consular Advisers  to work in the Ministry's head office in Wellington.  We are looking for well-rounded individuals who have experience in social services, case management, and/or emergency response.

Working within Consular Division, you may be involved in:

  • Delivering consular guidance and support to New Zealand Embassies and High Commissions overseas and to the New Zealand public,
  • Crisis contingency planning and preparing for and responding to emergencies.

Consular Advisers work primarily in either the Case Management or the Emergency Response teams.  However, they may be deployed to work in either team.  Consular Advisers participate in the Division's after-hours duty roster and emergency responses.

You must hold New Zealand citizenship and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government security clearance.  You may be required to travel from time to time also
