Job Description

Following the recent progression of the incumbent within the Ministry, we are now looking for an impressive Senior Adviser who is a team player with strong political nous and effective time management skills to join our fast paced and busy team. You'll work across the Ministry to manage the development of: responses to Official Information Act requests for complex and often sensitive information, draft responses to Ministerial correspondence and Parliamentary Questions, and the proactive release of OIA responses and Cabinet papers. As a Senior Adviser you will also be expected to effectively coach and mentor other members of the team and build capability in Ministry business units. You must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government security clearance, and it would be ideal if you have previously worked in a secure environment.

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate their experience:
  • Quickly and confidently developing effective relationships with a range of subject matter experts at all levels of leadership.
  • Exercising sound judgement and managing/mitigating risk appropriately.
  • Working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Managing multiple tasks well across a wide range of subject areas and adjusting priorities as needed, with minimal supervision.
  • Providing high quality technical advice and assistance to peers and managers to meet statutory obligations.
  • Working with New Zealand government systems, particularly around ministerial and parliamentary servicing, including in a ministerial services-type function or Minister's office.
  • Applying a working knowledge of the Official Information Act 1982.
  • ​Working in a secure environment (would be advantageous).
