Job Description

Unit Manager, International Security Policy

We are looking for a people leader to manage the International Security Policy Unit within the International Security and Disarmament Division. The Unit is busy and diverse, with responsibility for a wide-ranging portfolio of high-profile and fast-moving issues including:

• Countering terrorism and violent extremism
• Maritime security and transnational organised crime including people smuggling
• Defence deployments
As the Unit Manager, you will be responsible for managing the planning and delivery of the unit's agreed activities, developing policy advice on complex issues, and providing innovative solutions. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience leading a team of people to achieve outcomes and will be committed to supporting, mentoring and empowering team members.

You will need to be calm and organised, demonstrate good time management and communication skills, and have excellent networking capabilities. Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders is an important aspect of this role, and you will need to engage regularly and constructively with key interlocutors from around the Ministry, across the New Zealand security sector and offshore security partners.
