Job Description

New Zealand's increased presence in the Pacific

Lead Adviser – Health

Pacific Development Group (PDG)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT)

Are you an exceptional health specialist with leadership experience and a passion for the Pacific?

We're looking for a Lead Adviser – Health to be part of delivering New Zealand's increased focus on quality health for people in the region. This person will provide thought leadership and technical advice on our policy, programmes and activities in the health sector. We have a priority focus on the Pacific region. The Lead Adviser – Health is part of an advisory team in Wellington.

As well as having excellent written and oral communication, analysis, problem-solving and negotiation skills, you'll enjoy working with teams to turn policy into sound practices. You'll be able to provide top quality advice, think strategically, and be unfazed by ambiguity or complexity.

Being collaborative and great at building relationships is vital, because you'll be working with programme teams and partners to advance health outcomes in Pacific Island countries. That's anything from leading on strategic health developments and complex activities to advising on new health concepts, design, implementation and monitoring.

To be considered, you'll need at least ten years' experience in the health sector (we're looking for policy or operational advisory experience, and in-depth understanding of health systems and expertise in areas relevant or applicable to developing country contexts).  Your experience should include leadership in senior roles. Work experience in the Pacific region would be an advantage.
