Job Description

The North Asia region is critical to New Zealand's prosperity.  Five of New Zealand's top 10 trading partners are located in the region.  Japan and South Korea are significant economic and political partners and North Korea presents one of our greatest global security challenges.  We have significant security interests at stake, and extensive investment, education, people-to-people and other links.  There is strong NZ Inc commitment to and investment in New Zealand's interests in North Asia, and high level political support for the relationships.  The Division therefore operates at the centre of a highly commited, focused New Zealand effort on a region of fundamental importance to New Zealand.

The Unit Manager is responsible for leading the policy output and delivery of the Japan and Korea Unit's work, coordinating on Asia Regional issues, and providing people leadership across the Division in conjunction with the Lead Adviser Japan and Korea, Divisional Manager NAD, and China Unit Manager, to encourage a high-performing and supportive team culture and to enable the division's strategic priorities, high level outcomes and work programme as outlined under the key accountabilities.

The role is available immediately but we would be prepared to wait until the end of the year for the right candidate.
