What is the role

This role is responsible for managing complex commercial arrangements for the delivery of New Zealand Scholarships and their supporting services, building effective relationships with the suppliers and developing and implementing strategic and operational solutions.

This is exciting significant time for the Scholarships team as it moves through a period of transformational change to its operating model.  You will be working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that any changes that impact our suppliers are smooth and effective. With a wide variety of contracts and suppliers, this role offers diverse and exciting challenges.

What we need

We're looking for someone who has experience effectively and proactively managing large commercial contracts and conducting complex procurement activities, has strong relationship and change management skills, people management skills and the ability to think strategically while supporting the day to day operations.

To be successful in this role you'll bring:

  • A minimum of at least five years' experience in a contract management role, preferably in the New Zealand public sector; relevant tertiary qualifications or CIPS is desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen and well developed political awareness.
  • Experience managing governance at a senior level with both internal and external parties.
  • Proven experience in achieving outcomes through strong team work.
  • Demonstrable expertise and experience in the development and implementation of strategic sourcing plans, including engagement and communications.


You must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate New Zealand Government security clearance.


About the team

The Global Development and Scholarships Division (GDS) delivers the New Zealand scholarships programme which aims to achieve measureable development outcomes in the 114 countries scholarships are offered for study in New Zealand or the Pacific.   We provide scholarships strategy, policy, guidelines and the programme infrastructure for New Zealand scholarships and have oversight of the administration of these schemes.   We are responsible for strategy and policy advice on New Zealand's development assistance, and activity and relationship management in ASEAN and Timor Leste, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
