Job Description

Applications are invited for the open tenure role of Senior Network Engineer, supporting Infrastructure systems within the Information Management Division (IMD) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Within the Ministry IMD is responsible for the provision of cost effective and reliable global technological systems, solutions and support, and the management and oversight of records and archives, with programmes to enable staff to better access and share information and knowledge across the Ministry's global network.

The Infrastructure team is responsible for the management, stability and integrity of the Ministry's infrastructure systems, including: global Wide and Local Area Networks, network protection, server hardware, operating systems and Active Directory, virtualisation platforms (VMWARE and Hyper-V), Citrix XenApp and AGEE VPN services, encryption systems, data storage systems (EMC SANs), data backup and recovery and other infrastructural hardware and systems attached to the Ministry's networks.

This Senior Network Engineer role will be responsible for providing technical, administrative, and client support services for the development, maintenance and management of the Ministry's network infrastructure systems in all environments, as well as proving technical input to Ministry ICT projects. This role will lead support on all areas of networking and networking protection, including switching, routing, firewalls, VPNs, WAN optimisation etc. This role provides all aspects of Infrastructure administration, planning, performance, capacity management and client support as well as providing technical advice and mentoring to team members and other IMD staff.

To be successful in this role you will ideally hold a recognised industry standard qualification/certification and have over 8 years' experience in supporting network infrastructure systems in an enterprise wide environment. It is essential that you have extensive knowledge of, and experience with, switching, routing, firewalls, VPNs, WAN optimisation and ideally with the following vendor technologies: Cisco (switches, routers), Fortinet (fortigate, fortianalyser, fortimanager), VMWare (networking and firewalling), Citrix (Netscaler, AGEE, CloudBridge) and Microsoft TMG.

Additional to the technical skills you will have, excellent communication skills, experience in technical documentation, excellent analytical and problem-solving capability and have a pragmatic collaborative approach with a focus on delivery. You will also be able to quickly establish effective working relationships at all levels within an organisation.
