The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is on the lookout for a talented Infrastructure Architect to join the Information Management Division's Architecture Team.


The role:

The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing and developing architecture systems to meet business needs, ensuring these are technically sound and aligned to the Ministry's overall architecture and standards.

The purpose of the role is also to assist in maintaining the stability and integrity of the Ministry's infrastructure architecture and provide advice, direction and support to projects developing or changing Ministry applications.



MFAT offers range technical challenges within a flexible working environment.  The Information Management Division (IMD) is a high performing group with a number of large projects on the horizon you can sink your teeth into!


About you:

  • You should have a tertiary qualifications or equivalent in applicable technology.  This might include, Computer Science, Technology or related discipline and a MCSE / MCSA Cloud, CCNP or equivalent technical qualifications.
  • It is expected that you would have a minimum ten years IT experience working in an IT operational environment, specifically in Infrastructure (on premise and cloud based) and networking would be required.
  • You would probably have a minimum of five years' experience in designing systems for complex business and technical environments in a senior technical role such as technical lead, team lead, architect, or any other hands on leadership role
  • Your technical experience should be strong in Virtual technologies, particularly On premise and Cloud based services, Hyper Converged solutions, Mobility solutions – Virtual Networking and SD-WAN, Storage, etc, as well as deployment patterns and architectures (incl IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) for private-, public-, and hybrid-clouds.
  • Traditional data center hardware and technologies, deployment architectures and patterns
  • You must have strong working knowledge of System Development Lifecycle processes and be comfortable operating under structured project management.  You would be familiar with using various environments for developing, testing, production, system maintenance, etc.

You must be a New Zealand Citizen and able to obtain and maintain the appropriate New Zealand Government Security Clearance
