Job Description

A unique and exciting opportunity has become available to work in the Ministry's Human Resources Group as a Career Adviser to support the provision of career development advice and coaching to all staff across the Ministry.

As well as providing career coaching and advice, you'll maintain a range of career tools and resources for use within the Ministry and deliver training to support staff in their careers. You'll also develop and organise career events in support of the Ministry's resourcing processes and act as a key point of contact for staff posted offshore, alumni, secondees, and staff on extended leave to support their career transitions and keep them connected with the Ministry. Through your work, you will promote the value of diversity, flexibility, and the importance of the elimination of bias.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Well-developed career coaching skills that enable people to clarify career development goals and actions, without imposing solutions.
  • Experience designing and facilitating training and workshops for adults.
  • A high level of empathy, discretion, judgement and tact, and the ability to maintain trust and credibility with a diverse range of staff.
  • Skills writing engaging communications pieces that generate interest in our service.
  • Good planning and organising skills.
  • A desire to work across additional career development activities: e.g. providing CV and interview advice, promoting our service to staff offshore and on leave, writing careers communications, planning and organising events, designing new career development resources, and career service reporting / analytics.
  • An interest in acquiring additional accreditations / qualifications if needed.

And it is ideal if you have:

  • A relevant coaching qualification, and / or accreditation in relevant career development tools and methodologies (e.g. Hogan, TMI, DISC, StrengthsFinder and the Strong Interest Inventory).
  • A sound understanding of the nature of the roles available in the Ministry, the context in which they operate, the resourcing cycle, and the career development mechanisms available to staff.
  • Experience contributing to, and an interest in working on, people-related projects.

We are looking at a number of ways for resourcing the careers team at the Ministry. We are currently a team of two part-time staff, and want to hear from you whether you want to work either full-time, part-time or flexi-hours.

The starting salary for this role is $112,000 - $131,000 depending on skills and experience.
