Senior Analyst Forecasting and Costing – Permanent – Full time – Wellington

About the team

The Forecasting and Costing Team, is a specialist team providing expert analysis on the demand for and cost of the benefit system, helping to inform government decision makers on their key policy decisions and contributing to significant packages such as the recently announced Families Package.


About the role

Day-to-day work will range from the in-depth development of forecasting and micro-simulation models to quick turn-around ad-hoc requests. There is also scope to carry out innovative modelling analyses to help the Ministry understand the impacts of policy decisions on benefit numbers and expenditure.


About you

  • You will be a talented Senior Analyst with a relevant degree in Economics, Operations Research or similar, looking to apply your skills across a range of modelling, time-series forecasting and economic analysis.
  • You will possess proven experience in working as part of a team and building relationships, gathering and analysing information and using a range of analytical techniques to understand and solve a range of complex problems.
  • You will be able to communicate complex ideas in clear and simple terms and produce high quality work under pressure. 
  • You will have an understanding of economic and mathematical modelling, the ability to convert economic and policy information into model form, and a desire to apply this knowledge in a real-world policy environment.
  • You'll be highly numerate with experience in economic analysis, proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and have the ability to program in SAS or similar.
