Do you have strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with anyone and everyone?  Do you want to work as a finance professional in the creative sector where no two days are ever the same?

We're looking for a Finance Business Partner with a strong team approach to join our busy Finance & Strategy team to provide financial business partnering, advice and support across Te Papa.

Purpose of the position

The Finance Business Partner provides high-quality advice and decision-making support through excellent financial modelling and number crunching.

This position is a trusted financial advisor to the Deputy Chief Executives, tier 3 senior leaders and some tier 4 managers, providing authoritative and influential financial advice, analysis and assurance to support informed decision-making and financial stewardship. It is a ‘go to' position that provides proactive financial insight, planning and analysis to ensure organisational resources are used effectively and align with strategic and operational priorities. The role also is responsible for the development of organisational models and plays a key role in the development of business plans, and continuous improvement of financial reporting and capability.

You'll work in a way that reflects manaakitanga (care and respect), builds whanaungatanga (strong relationships), and encourages auahatanga (continuous improvement).

What success looks like

We're looking for the right person to bring fresh ideas, as well as an open, flexible approach, and a strong drive for delivering excellent service. After your first year, people will describe you as someone who has developed an understanding of Te Papa's broad operating environment and has built effective relationships with key internal contacts. This will result in adding meaningful value to financial decision-making.

Key responsibilities

You will provide strategic and operational financial advice, develop financial models and undertake financial analysis providing insight into Te Papa's activities and performance, leading to better informed decision-making. You will upskill key business contacts to improve their financial literacy and identify innovative ways of measuring, reporting and forecasting financial performance.

Skills, experience and behaviours

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • Experience operating in the provision of decision-making support and advice
  • CA qualified or has relevant professional experience
  • Experience in the development and ongoing use of complex financial models
  • The ability to weave financial analysis into effective story telling
  • Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of people and provide guidance, support to enable capability uplift
  • The ability to learn and adapt financial practices in a te ao māori environment

It would be a bonus if you've had relevant experience in both the public and private sectors!

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, based at Te Papa Tongarewa, 55 Cable Street, Wellington.

The salary band for the role is $117,085 - $160,922 per annum. The starting salary will typically be between $117,085 and $139,000 depending on skills, experience and internal relativities.
