Job Description

In Parliament, there's never a dull moment and in the Office of the Clerk, you'll be right at the heart of the action. We provide secretariat and administrative services to the House of Representatives, including advice on legal issues and parliamentary procedure.

We are looking for senior committee advisers to work in our Select Committees Services team. In this dynamic team you'll play a lead role in making Parliamentary committees function effectively. And you'll help address meaningful issues that affect every aspect of society - from foreign affairs to social services, and everything in between.

Working closely with MPs, you will:

  • plan the work programme for your designated committees
  • provide direction and support to a small team
  • attend committee meetings
  • advise on parliamentary procedures.

As well as ensuring the committees are on track, you will bring to the role your logical thinking skills and the ability to influence. You will build a strong, trusting professional relationship with the Chair of your committees and will need to be tactful, diplomatic, and confident working with senior public figures.

This is a senior role, so ideally we are looking for someone with:

  • previous experience as an advisor,
  • familiarity with parliament and the machinery of government, or
  • experience supporting a board or a committee.

  • an excellent written and verbal communicator?
  • able to think on your feet and deal effectively with the unexpected?
  • a strong planner with sound judgement and decision-making skills?
