Job Description

At Fire and Emergency New Zealand, we have an exciting role for you to explore.

We are seeking applications for the six month fixed-term role of Spatial Data Administrator, as part of the Data and Spatial Intelligence unit based at NHQ, Wellington. This exciting role within Fire and Emergency New Zealand administering and supporting GIS databases, as well as providing data maintenance, analysis and modelling services to customers of the Data and Spatial Intelligence (DSI) services unit. The role focuses on:

  • administration of the structured spatial database environment
  • development and enhancement of enterprise spatial data models and schemas to meet changing Fire and Emergency New Zealand business requirements, including requirements from the wider emergency services collaboration and inter-operability
  • development and enhancement of the structured Fire and Emergency New Zealand spatial database environment based on defined business requirements, developed data models and wider enterprise information architecture.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

The Information Communication & Technology Service (ICTS) group based at National Headquarters in Wellington is structured in five functional areas: ICT Strategy and Programme, Technology and Support Services, Data & Spatial Intelligence (DSI), Business Solutions and National Telecommunications.

The Data and Spatial Intelligence unit provides enterprise operational & business data management and system administration, technical support, technology solutions delivery, along with national intelligence services to Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and the Spatial Data Administrator is a key member of this team. This specialist position has responsibility for administering and supporting GIS databases, as well as providing data maintenance, analysis and modelling services to customers of the Data and Spatial Intelligence (DSI) services unit.

To be successful in this role you will need experience in enterprise level GIS databases, enterprise data management and enterprise data architecture, plus a relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Information Systems or related technical field. You will also be a skilled communicator, with experience of collaborating effectively with a range of colleagues and stakeholders in order to achieve quality outcomes.
