Job Description

Social Worker x3 – Hamilton, Waikato Rural South, Permanent, Full Time

  • Get involved with children early on, to help them grow up safe and happy.
  • Work in a close, supportive team who share the same values.
  • An affordable, change of pace lifestyle in the Waikato area.

If you genuinely want to make a real, positive impact on children's lives, you'll be glad to know that at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, they always come first.

Putting children first guides everything we do at Oranga Tamariki. We believe by getting involved early in their lives and showing love and care, we give tamariki the best chance of growing into happy, thriving New Zealanders. If that's also your approach to social work, this could be a great fit for you!

You'll care deeply about supporting families and being a role model that inspires them to make good decisions.  We are looking for someone to join our strong, solid team of social workers who can work closely together and share our values. An understanding of, and interest in, Tikanga Māori would be a definite advantage, but you'll be shown everything you need to know.

In the Waikato area, you can look forward to a relaxed lifestyle with a community-focused atmosphere. If you like the outdoors, this is definitely the place to be, with East and West coastlines readily accessible. Some of the most amazing regional destinations are within an hour's drive in any direction.

We can offer you:

  • A salary range between $46,867 - $79,015* as at 1 December the salary range will move to $54,746.80 - $91,606.
  • A challenging, fascinating and gratifying career.
  • On-going training and regular supervision.
  • A cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • Commitment to the highest standards of strengths-based social work.

To be successful in this rewarding position, you will need:

  • A qualification in social work recognised by the SWRB.
  • SWRB registration with a current APC or working towards gaining registration.
  • Excellent report writing, verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrated resilience, problem solving techniques and flexibility.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • A full, current driver's licence.
  • Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
