We now have two Social Worker opportunities available to join our Care and Protection team based at our Nga Parirau, Tauranga East site. Nga Parirau is a new high performing site built upon a platform of solid team work and quality practice.  The site is located in the vibrant city centre of Tauranga with a total of 30 staff delivering social work services into the coastal areas between Mt Maunganui and Te Puke.


As a Social Worker, you will help to change the lives of our young people and their whānau, helping them to achieve to their full potential. Our Care and Protection social workers work alongside community partners to bring about positive outcomes for our tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau. 


A big part of your day will be working with children and young people and ensuring their voices are heard. You will do this by:

  • Completing assessments, reports and formal Family Court documents.
  • Creating plans.
  • Completing referrals.
  • Participating in Family Group Conferences.
  • Partnering with other agencies, stakeholders and the community to get the best outcomes.

To be successful in this rewarding position, you will need:

  • A qualification in social work recognised by the SWRB.
  • SWRB registration with a current APC or working towards gaining registration.
  • Exceptional listening skills (hear what the child or young person has to say).
  • Proven ability to quickly build rapport with tamariki and rangatahi.
  • A high degree of both verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to bi-cultural practice and a culturally responsive approach (a good understanding of Tikanga Māori advantageous).
  • A full, clean, valid driver's licence.
