Social Worker, Family Harm Team, Taupo, Full Time, Permanent

  • Get involved to help children grow up safe and happy.
  • Make a difference with young people and families.
  • A close, supportive team who share the same values.

At Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, we're on a journey to ensure that all tamariki are in loving whānau and communities. Oranga Tamariki is leading social work practice that is child-centred, trauma informed and effective for Māori as well as other cultures.

As a Social Worker, you will help to change the lives of our young people and their whānau, helping them to achieve their full potential. Here at our Taupo site, we have an opportunity for a Social Worker to join our supportive Family Harm team.

Our family harm social workers are responsible for assessing family harm and, in conjunction with interagency partners, planning and implementing interventions that contribute to the safety and well-being of families.

They ensure safe and sound decision-making occurs in respect of children and young people, utilising their knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of family violence, especially the impact of family harm to inform decision-making.

In this role, you will help coordinate our responses and facilitate, lead, guide and support our work with our partners to reduce family harm.  You will be working closely with our partner agencies to ensure the safety and best interests of children and young people are at the centre of what we do.

If you are passionate about social work and want to help change the lives of our most at risk children, then we would love to hear from you.

We can offer you:

  • A salary range between $54,746.80 - $91,606.
  • A cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • The ability to make long lasting relationships within the community.
  • Regular supervision, training and career development opportunities.
  • Personal satisfaction that you are making a positive difference in your everyday work.

To be successful in this rewarding position, you will need:

  • A qualification in social work recognised by the social work registration board (SWRB).
  • SWRB registration with current APC or working towards gaining registration.
  • Exceptional listening skills – hear what the child or young person has to say.
  • Proven ability to quickly build rapport with tamariki and rangatahi.
  • A high degree of both verbal and written communication skills (you will need to write court reports).
  • A commitment to bi-cultural practice and a culturally responsive approach (a good understanding of Tikanga Māori advantageous).
  • A full, clean, valid driver's licence.

Applications close: 23rd of January 2019
