Job Description

Senior Business Analyst – Project Management Office (PMO)

  • Join our Ministry and influence change for all New Zealanders.
  • Rare and exciting opportunity to join a newly formed function that is key to supporting delivery of change across the country.
  • Use your varied and flexible skills and experience to deliver a wide range of projects within our PMO.

About us:

Putting children first guides everything we do here at Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children. Along with that, we value fairness and sincerity. We treat whānau with respect and we think long-term. We believe that by getting involved early in their lives and showing love and care, we give children the best chance of growing into happy thriving New Zealanders. We work alongside our community partners to bring about positive outcomes for our children, young people and their whānau.

About the role:

Oranga Tamariki has an ambitious programme of change to manage. We are looking for a number of Senior Business Analysts to join our PMO. You will join a new team of business analysts who will be assigned to various key projects across the organisation. These projects are fundamental to the work of the organisation and our future state.

This is a unique and rare opportunity for experienced Business Analysts to join us in our newly formed change function.  As a new team, we have some big pieces of work ahead of us, paired with some ambitious goals.  The role will see you building and establishing practices for a number of projects, therefore if you are an experienced Business Analyst looking for your next challenge, this could be the role for you.

Please note, this is a Business Analyst position within a Change PMO and not an IT / System Business Analyst position. We are seeking applications from experienced candidates who have worked within a project management office.

Skills and experience:

We are seeking experienced Senior Business Analysts who specialise in the development of frameworks and practices for large scale projects, which are working to improve ways of working with partners and customers through to delivery of change.

You will have a solid understanding of social welfare needs in relation to whānau and communities and will ideally have prior experience working in this area.

In order to succeed in these roles you will have:

  • Broad experience, ideally leading and mentoring junior analysts.
  • Experience as a Business Analyst within private and government organisations.
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering a range of outputs for business projects.
  • Knowledge of indigenous models of practice with a commitment to delivering to our Māori cultural framework.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as a team to create fresh and new ideas and be a team player.
  • Common sense and a practical approach where ambiguity is found.
  • Confidence to lead activities for processes with inclusion of the business.
  • The ability to see the potential opportunities when obstacles come your way.
  • An energetic and enthusiastic working style with a positive outlook.
  • The ability to use experience and knowledge to develop practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to present complex information in an engaging and easy to understand way.
  • Flexibility and be adaptable, a reliable Business Analyst with strong ethics and business nature.
  • A minimum of eight years' experience.
  • The right to work in New Zealand.
