Job Description

Fantastic opportunity for aspiring leader wanting to further develop their leadership capability in a key role at a high performing Ministry.

Join a supportive, collaborative team who continually strive for excellence.

The Ministry of Defence's core purpose is to provide civilian advice to the Government on defence matters. The Ministry aims to lead through excellence by being influential; collaborative; courageous; dynamic; pragmatic and professional.

We have an exciting opportunity for individual to join our Finance team in our newly created Deputy Chief Financial Officer role.

The Ministry has doubled in size over the past 18 months, going through significant change and is now embedding these. We need a Deputy Chief Financial Officer to support the CFO more broadly in their role, while also taking the lead on a range of finance functions.

You'll be responsible for supporting the delivery of the financial management portfolio and varied finance related functions. You'll need to be able to work in partnership with our key stakeholders, including the New Zealand Defence Force, Audit and internal stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate is someone who can combine their rounded public sector finance experience with their ability to inspire and support a team to deliver outstanding performance. You'll be confident deputising for our Chief Financial Officer, adding value both at a division and organisational level.

Other key qualities include:

-       Experience in managing finance and accounting functions in a public sector organisation.

-       In depth knowledge of the Public Finance Act, Public Sector Finance Reporting Standards and public sector reporting of compliance requirements.

-       Sound working knowledge and experience in procurement and relative guidelines pertaining to public sector procurement.

Join us in our important work and in return we'll offer you a collaborative, inclusive work environment and the opportunity to grow your career in a core public sector agency.
