Job Description

Are you an experienced advisor wanting to take the next step in your career?

The Ministry of Defence is seeking an experienced Principal or Senior Advisor to join our Governance and Assurance team to provide senior leaders and governance bodies with comprehensive, high quality and timely analysis and advice on project risks, issues and decisions.

Being part of the Ministry of Defence means that you'll be joining an organisation which provides civilian advice to the Government on defence matters. We also play a critical role in assessing New Zealand's defence needs and we work closely with the New Zealand Defence Force to determine, acquire and assess our country's defence capability requirements (in this context military capability means military platforms, equipment, material, systems, technologies and specialist people competencies).

This is a great opportunity for a confident and collaborative individual to make a significant contribution to achieving excellence in defence capability management and the delivery of a significant programme of investment over the coming years, with a total capital spend of around $6 billion.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is able to constructively challenge the way things are done and turn difficult conversations to effective ones with senior people, ensuring the best outcomes for Defence are achieved. You'll demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to identify matters that need to be brought to the attention of Defence decision makers.

Other key qualities include:

  • A proven track record collaborating with and influencing others to achieve desired outcomes
  • A well-evidenced ability to multi-task and effectively manage time to deliver excellent results
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to coach and mentor more junior staff

Working at the Ministry of Defence is challenging, exciting and highly rewarding. If you are someone who is resilient, able to operate under pressure and consistently demand the standards necessary to meet governance requirements then we are keen to hear from you.

Join us in our important work and in return we'll offer you a collaborative, inclusive work environment and the opportunity to grow your career in a core public sector agency.

Applications are to be received by 5:00pm Sunday 25 March 2018.
