Seeking all Safety, Health and Well being Managers or aspiring Managers. We have an exciting 12 month fixed-term opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to work with us in our wider People and Capability team at Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience. Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the Firefighters who serve them with integrity and respect, now and in the future.

The Safety, Health and Well being team sits within the People Safety and Support team and is responsible for:

Assuring Fire and Emergency NZ meets its legislative and moral responsibility towards health, safety and well being to sustain operational capability, and ensure that "Everyone Goes Home Safe and Well Every time." The National Headquarters and Regional teams do this by identifying needs, and developing, implementing and evaluating programmes and services in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders using evidence-informed approaches which pro actively promote safety health and well being, and also encourage help-seeking and early intervention when needed, across all areas and activities of the organisation within communities throughout New Zealand.

The ideal candidate we are seeking will have a strong mix of the following experiences:

  • Extensive experience of working with key stakeholders developing and delivering high quality Safety Health & Well being programmes and services within a large organisation
  • Demonstrated experience as a people manager in a changeable environment
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Safety discipline and field
  • Working pro actively and measuring the success of your work and the team outcomes.
  • Adept at building collaborative working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and engagement skills, and ability to work with a range of key stakeholders and influencers throughout organisations
  • Strong judgement and knowing when to adapt your advice to fit different situations
