Job Description

The location of this role is flexible across Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. Our new, unified organisation provides services designed to deliver better outcomes for New Zealand's communities in terms of emergency prevention and response.

We're looking to appoint an experienced Fire Engineer to join our team.

Our Fire Engineering Unit is involved in a variety of work:

  • Liaison with design teams to provide input into the Fire Engineering brief for all verification methods and performance based building design
  • Review of building consent documentation to assess 'means of escape' and 'facilities for Fire Fighters';
  • Undertaking research and development projects to influence and inform Fire policy
  • Stakeholder liaison including National Standards committees, government departments and industry groups
  • Undertaking post-incident analysis following fires of significance
  • Providing support and technical training for Fire and Emergency NZ staff

The successful applicant will hold a tertiary qualification in Fire Engineering and will have previous experience as a practicing Fire Engineer. We have a professional development programme which is geared at ensuring our Engineers gain chartered status at the earliest opportunity. As such, applicants should be actively working towards that goal.
