About the role

 

As Strategic Advisor, you will be reporting to the Manager: Partnerships and Harm Prevention (PHP) Team at Police National Headquarters and will be responsible for providing strategic advice and support to the Assistant Commissioner: Investigations and wider Investigations Leadership Team.

 

The purpose of the Investigations Group is to enable and deliver on Our Business. We do this by delivering great service to our community, ensuring our people are equipped and enabled, and leveraging our partnerships and prevention opportunities by giving full effect to our Prevention First Operating Model.

 

The Investigations Group oversee serious and organised crime investigation activity along with delivering on a range of all-of-government strategic programmes that support the Governments priorities both nationally and internationally, and is made up of: Financial Crime Group, National Criminal Investigations Group, National Organised Crime Group, Partnerships and Harm Prevention and three Territorial Detective Superintendents.

 

The Partnerships and Harm Prevention Team supports New Zealand Police's mission to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing through the implementation of two key cross-government workstreams – the Transnational Organised Crime (TNOC) Strategy and Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities (ROCC) work programme. The team works closely with internal and external partners (both government and non-government) to deliver activities at national and local levels.

 

As Strategic Advisor your role will be agile, and you will have the opportunity to take on different responsibilities and provide well rounded support to several workstreams and leaders. There is an opportunity to grow and develop your skills within this role.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Engaging collaboratively with Police, government and community partners
  • Preparing reports including cabinet papers, briefing reports to the Executive and Minister and drafting agendas
  • Preparing responses to Parliamentary questions and OIA requests
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of training and presentations to stakeholders in relation to group specific issues
  • Writing and reviewing Business Plans and group strategy documentation in consultation with the Manager: Partnerships Harm and Prevention
  • Coordinating and assisting in the delivery of project meetings including reporting and implementation of strategies.

Previous secretariat/governance support experience or provision of executive level advice or briefings would be ideal along with a keen interest in organised crime and a passion to drive crime prevention outcomes for all New Zealanders.
