Job Description

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Depot Technician to join our busy team in our Rangiora Depot. Reporting to the Rural Management Advisor, you'll be responsible for maintaining and servicing the region's fire equipment - hose, hand tools and mechanised plant. This role includes carrying out regular audits and testing, as well as scheduled routine maintenance and repair work to a high standard. Alongside the team you will also be maintaining the fire equipment database, participating in health and safety planning, equipment checking and quality control activities. You'll play a key role in enabling and supporting brigades to deliver an effective service to the community.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • experience in fire management and/or emergency management
  • experience and knowledge in using and maintaining specialised fire equipment
  • an ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • exceptional time management and organisation skills.

This role will involve some travel, to service remote sites. You will also need to have a full driver's licence - class 1 and 2.

So if you're looking for a chance to put your diverse skill set to use in an organisation dedicated to helping our communities, then we'll provide you with a unique opportunity to utilise your knowledge and experience in dynamic and supportive team.
