About the role

 

Policing our roads is considered an essential component of the road safety sector. In partnership with our sector colleagues, New Zealand Police play a key role in the development and operalisation of strategies that aim to reduce deaths and injuries on New Zealand Roads through effective road safety prevention, education, and enforcement activities.

 

The National Road Policing Centre (NRPC) provides the leadership to equip and enable Police to deliver Safer Roads commitments. These commitments include Our Business and the Safe Roads Control Strategy, along with the governments Road to Zero strategy and the Road Safety Partnership Programme (RSPP).

 

As a Senior Road Policing Advisor, you will directly support the Safer Roads objectives through the provision of effective policy and operational advice that enables frontline Police staff to deliver Our Business.

 

No day will ever be the same! You will analyse legislation, identify impacts to policy and initiate conversations with key stakeholders. You will provide expert policy guidance on road safety issues and will assist with the development of operational policy, corporate documents, and Police instructions. Importantly you will be confident managing multiple pieces of work and working to tight deadlines. 

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Support stakeholders with policy development and advice  
  • Interpret legislative change and develop appropriate police instructions to enable frontline road safety delivery
  • Work closely with the wider NRPC and other internal work groups to support collaborative efforts
  • Build and maintain effective external relationships, including with Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency and the Ministry of Transport
  • Contribute to a supportive and inclusive high performing team environment
  • Demonstrate Whakamana – enhancing the Mana and waiora (well-being) of others, so that we can all be safe and feel safe.

  • Have an ability to operationalise strategic intent, demonstrated through previous policy writing experience
  • Have an ability to think in a logical and analytical manner
  • Have proven influential communication abilities both verbal and written
  • Can work independently or as part of a united team
  • Have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Have project management qualifications (desirable)
