Job Description

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was established on 1 July this year as a result of the integration of over 40+ rural fire authorities, the National Rural Fire Authority, and the New Zealand Fire Service. We are a technologically advanced, responsive fire and emergency service with almost 500 stations throughout New Zealand involving approximately 2000 career staff and 11,000 volunteer Fire Fighters who dedicate themselves to preventing fires and protecting their communities in times of emergency.

Although we seek an experienced HR practitioner we will consider applications from individuals looking to develop their HR practice.

Along with assisting leaders in change management your will also be pivotal in advising, coaching and providing appropriate tools to leaders, and supporting delivery of National initiatives which encourage managers towards self-sufficiency in delivering their ER and HR accountabilities. You will have the confidence and resourcefulness to act independently within a complex environment as well as the flexibility to support a geographically dispersed workforce.

The ideal candidate will need the following:

  • A detailed knowledge of employment-related legislation, OSH and HR
  • The ability to work independently and provide customer-focused support
  • A high level of professionalism and well developed relationship-building skills
  • Experience in change management and in developing, promoting and embedding HR policies and practices
  • Excellent communication / presentation skills and is accustomed to working with a wide range of people
  • Great time management and a flexible, adaptable and positive approach

In return, we will can provide a friendly workplace, flexibility and the chance to work in a unique, dynamic and supportive environment with great colleagues. Your work contributes to outcomes for your community through support of the organisations leaders both volunteer and paid.
