Job Description

Influential Advisory Opportunity

  •  Lead work on multi-million dollar funding contracts
  • Making a difference to people's lives

How do you get the best value for money from the national budget for pharmaceuticals?

This, in a nutshell, is the critical question that PHARMAC's Therapeutic Group Managers seek to address... from rigorous clinical, economic and commercial analysis of funding proposals... to working effectively with clinicians to leading contract negotiations and development of business cases. It's all about making real improvements to the lives of New Zealanders and helping ensure health sector resources are used as effectively as possible.

Your high level of analytical ability and problem solving will be critical when presenting clear business cases derived from complex scientific/clinical data, non-financial information and financial data. Your ability to work with ease with clinicians and senior stakeholders will be essential to your success within this role. You may be currently working in a clinical role within primary health care or a community based health provider. Coupled with this you will bring proven project management and commercial negotiation abilities and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

You are joining a supportive team, working at the heart of what PHARMAC does. Your colleagues will support you and we would aim to assign you to a therapeutic group you have some familiarity with. Take a look at the Our People area of our website to see the profile for one of our seniors.

PHARMAC is the government agency responsible for ensuring New Zealanders have access to a wide range of affordable medicines.  As an international leader in pharmaceutical management PHARMAC makes a vital contribution to New Zealand's health outcomes.

In this rewarding and challenging role you will be responsible for managing PHARMAC's funding activities within a range of therapeutic areas. This is a real opportunity to be at the core of PHARMAC's operations, influencing the practical intersect of evidence-based medicine, economics and commerce.
