The New Zealand Police Counties Manukau District Intelligence Unit (CMDIU) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Intelligence Analyst. This permanent position is based at the Counties Manukau District Police Station and supports organisational delivery of Our Business across Tamaki Makaurau. Our purpose is to contribute to our organisational targets, while delivering a service focused on the prevention and disruption of criminal activity.


You will be a natural leader, calm under pressure, adaptable and enthusiastic individual who is able to come to grips with the varying business needs and processes with ease. Your exceptional communication skills will also enable you to work across multiple business units and establish positive relationships with your peers. Further, a substantial portion of your work will be focussed on development and training requirements of the team.


This role is currently vacant due to internal promotion. As an organisation, we are committed to career development within the Intelligence arena and offer a supportive learning environment. Skills - To be considered for this role, you must be able to:

  • Demonstrate analytical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information
  • Research, analyse, write reports to assist decision makers
  • Manage competing demands and at times, high workload
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external)
  • Provide clear and concise verbal briefings
  • Coach and deliver training across the workgroup
  • Develop, innovate, and lead new processes and products


Experience - You will have:

  • Used Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports/presentations, and computer literacy
  • Demonstrated ability writing clear, succinct, accurate and actionable documents
  • Used a variety of tools and techniques to understand a problem, develop solutions and effectively influence and inform decision making
  • Experience using i2 Analyst's notebook, Business Objects and other analytical tools is desirable

Special requirements - Applicants must:

  • Hold permanent residency or be a New Zealand citizen.
  • Meet requirements for the position under the Professional Development in Intelligence Programme (PDIP) -
  • Be able to obtain and maintain government security clearances to top secret level.

  • Hold the National Diploma of Intelligence Analysis (NDIA) qualification, or equivalent, or be able to obtain it.
  • In the event of operational emergencies, at short notice applicants may be required to work outside standard operating hours and respond to calls, travel domestically, relocated temporarily for unknown duration. Applicants may be required to rotationally work shift hours.
