  • Annual salary of $129,714 plus five weeks' annual leave

Legal team

Our Legal team is growing to meet the demands of Housing New Zealand to provide housing for those most in need in our community. We work closely with the Asset Development Group to develop and prepare construction contracts and consultancy agreements for the new build programme along with providing legal support during the construction process.

The role

Our vision is 'Building lives and communities by housing New Zealanders'. To help us achieve this we are currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel who will be providing high quality legal advice and support on a full range of construction matters including all aspects of construction contracts, insurance, bonds, disputes, contract related issues or disputes that arise. We are looking for someone with strong technical legal skills is solution focused, adaptable and a strong communicator.

What you'll need to bring:

  • Experience with preparing and reviewing various forms of NZ construction contracts and consultant agreements and able to act as a technical expert within the team to deal with complex legal matters
  • Excellent drafting skills to assist in the finalisation of construction contracts and consultant agreements and assistance in developing standardised contracts for use with a document automation system
  • Experience providing prompt and commercially focused advice on a range of construction related disputes
  • Proven track record in taking a leadership and mentoring role within the team and the organisation
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with your colleagues in the wider legal team and other internal clients within the organisation
  • A professional attitude with excellent communication skills
