Job Description

PHARMAC is looking for a new Medical Director.

PHARMAC is a small and agile government agency responsible for ensuring New Zealanders have access to a wide range of affordable medicines and medical devices.  As an international leader in pharmaceutical management, our organisation makes a vital contribution to New Zealand's health outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Medical Director will provide clinical governance and leadership, ensuring the reliable supply of clinical advice to PHARMAC.  And you will be a key member of the Executive team.

This executive leadership position will lead the team that provides clinical input to PHARMAC, including through the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (PTAC) and over 20 subcommittees.  The team, which provides PHARMAC with clinical governance, leadership and advice interacts with clinicians and health care professionals across both the primary and secondary care sectors for both medicines and medical devices, as well as with patient and advocacy groups.

This is a great opportunity to contribute your clinical expertise in a key sector leadership role and to communicate PHARMAC's perspectives, processes and decisions within the sector.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed strategic thinker and leader with the ability to work actively with the health sector, government, patients and public within the context of PHARMAC's framework and the commercial setting in which we operate in New Zealand.

The ideal candidate will have a New Zealand-recognised medical qualification, knowledge of current healthcare issues, an understanding of the operation of the New Zealand health sector and experience in appraisal of evidence as part of decision-making .

The role is full-time and based in Wellington.

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a high-profile Crown entity that is truly making a difference to the lives of New Zealanders.

Please apply here before 5pm, Friday 29 March 2019.
