Job Description

  • Meaningful work with a positive impact on all New Zealanders.
  • Friendly team and a great company culture.
  • Wellington CBD Location.

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has established itself as an agency with a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand and providing better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and for the New Zealand economy.

As part of the wider Regulation Function, the Conduct Assessment Team at FMA is responsible for delivering effective and efficient assessment of potential misconduct in order to provide recommendations. We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Adviser to join this busy team who are on the frontline of dealing with incidents of potential financial misconduct.

This position will see you leading enquiries into complaints about individuals and entities acting within and outside of the regulatory perimeter. Predominantly you'll be working with the unlicensed population and you'll really get the chance to dig around, get your hands dirty and use your analytical and investigative skills to get to the bottom of issues. This could include preparation of civil and criminal cases for court action as required. You will assist the Manager, Conduct Assessment in allocating cases for triage and prepare insightful, well-researched weekly reports for the review group and you will also provide guidance and technical advice to the more junior advisers in the team.

You will have complaint management and investigations experience and a solid knowledge of financial products, such as insurance or financial services, but more importantly you'll have a natural curiosity and a nose for smelling out a potential issue. Leadership and interpersonal skills are essential and experience in leading and motivating others will be the key to your success.

The Financial Markets Authority is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and is committed to maintaining an inclusive culture where all employees have the opportunity to reach their potential.  We recognise that our continued success is dependent on the performance and ability of our employees.
