The New Zealand Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre (ICTSC) are seeking to appoint a Deputy Director: Service Operations to the Technology Operations Group, based at the ICTSC, Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua.  As the Deputy Director: Service Operations, you'll be responsible for the technical delivery and continuity of ICT services required by Police.  But this significant senior role is much more than infrastructure - it's about leading the Technology Operations Group support staff to provide capability to the Emergency Services, maintaining the availability of critical networks, and having the ability to rapidly react to a changing environment, always with a view to ensuring that our Policemen and Women have the tools in which to enhance the safety of our community.

The Police ICT Service Centre is here to save police officers time, enhance their safety and contribute to making New Zealand a safer community. To prevent crime and crashes, Police needs information delivered to the front line that is reliable and able to be accessed anywhere, anytime. Making this happen is the daily work of our people in the ICT Service Centre. With our operational colleagues and partners we create world leading solutions in mobile, computer aided dispatch, intelligence, networks and security. We are looking for a senior leader that has the right people skills and technical expertise but most importantly share our vision for innovation, partnerships and being part of a positive work environment.

This role is responsible for providing leadership, strategy, technical and functional direction for 3rd level support in the areas of; Applications Support, Core Systems, Enterprise Systems, and Networks, including Capacity and Asset Management.  The Deputy Director ensures that the outcomes required in maintaining the daily Operational Policing infrastructure and ICT supporting capabilities are met, that external vendor engagement and relationships are optimised, and that they contribute to the Director's responsibilities to ensure Service Delivery, Strategy Development, Project and Contract Management and Team Development.

This is an extremely dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A successful track record as a leader and manager within a large complex ICT technical operations environment;
  • A proven leader and people manager within a national 24/7 service delivery organisation;
  • Extensive experience in developing and delivering strategies, plans, process and appropriate measurements to drive the behaviour and performance required in a large technical environment;
  • A Tertiary qualification in IT or engineering or equivalent experience.



Demonstrate the following SFIA 6 Framework skills:

ITMG (IT Management) Level 6;

ITCM (Contract Management) Level 6;

RLMT (Relationship Management) Level 6;

SEAC (Service Acceptance) Level 6;

PEMT (Performance Management) Level 6; &

CPMG (Capacity Management) Level 6.

Certification Requirements

A Tertiary qualification in IT or engineering or equivalent experience.


Special Requirements

The successful applicant will reside in the Wellington area, and will be required to undergo a full reference and security check prior to any offer of employment.  The successful applicant must also be able to achieve Top Secret clearance.
