Assistant Auditor-General, Strategy and Communications

  • An experienced and confident leader able to influence at the highest levels.
  • Able to build high-performing teams and systems to support delivery.
  • High motivation to achieve better results for New Zealand.

The Office of the Auditor-General (the Office) has a strategy that is focused on significantly enhancing its influence and impact on the performance of the public sector to deliver better results for New Zealand. The Office expects to deliver more outputs and we want our work to have greater impact in the future.

The Assistant Auditor-General, Strategy and Communications is a new role specifically designed to support the Office to drive its strategy forward. This is a key leadership position in an organisation that engages at the highest levels of central and local government. This high-profile role is critical to positioning the Office for the future and will have significant opportunities to influence across the wider state sector.

This role will work alongside the Office's leadership team and the newly formed Strategy and Communications Group in two key areas:

  • To enhance key strategy, planning, and governance systems to ensure that the Office is set up to deliver now and in the future.
  • To develop new and innovative ways to achieve a step change in the visibility of the Office and the impact that its products and services have on public organisations, Parliament, and the public.

This role also has responsibility for the editing and publications functions of the Office.

We are looking for an experienced and confident leader who can shape the role and position this Group to influence and support the wider Office to deliver results.

Significant experience in managing strategy and communications teams is essential, as is the ability to engage with senior stakeholders in the public sector.
