Salary range $150,620.00 - $203,780.00

Under the leadership of Deputy Chief Executive Strategy and Assistant Commissioner Strategy & Performance, Strategy Group is composed of several directorates working in the broad area of strategy. Our Strategy Group is made up of the following groups:

• Research and Evaluation

• Strategic Integration

• Mobility and Innovation

• National Performance and Insights Centre

• Policy and Advice

• Social Investment

• Ministerial Services

• EPMO (Enterprise portfolio management office)

 

We have an opportunity for you to join our Strategy Group as Chief Data Scientist of New Zealand Police leading the Data Analytics team as well as the delivery of statistical and business intelligence services. This pivotal leadership role is viewed as being a thought leader in initiating and shaping the strategic direction for statistics and business intelligence in New Zealand Police.

Important to New Zealand Police is that this role leads and assists with building a culture of transparency, ease of data access and interpretation-internal and external (open data) so that New Zealand Police and the public are able to extract full value from its data. The Data Analytics team delivers analytical modelling (capability) to unlock powerful insights. This role is required to position Police to manage for the future by building our data and predictive analytics capabilities and position Police to manage for the future through accurate forecasting (capability).

 Skills:

Demonstrates an ability to engage with senior managers and operational decision makers on data related issues

Demonstrates a proven record with leading high performing and engaging teams 

Experience:

Experience in the New Zealand Official Statistics System;

Use of the SAS tools that are used within New Zealand Police for data integration and statistical analysis;

Creation and use of performance information in a large organisation;

At least 5 years' experience in managing, analysing and reporting administrative data in a large organisation 

Special Requirements:

Compulsory Qualification: Tertiary qualification in statistics and/or management science

Desired Additional Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in engineering or computer science, and/or in performance measurement in police or the public sector
