Graduate Programme - Assistant Auditor Christchurch at The Audit Office, Canterbury

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Graduate Programme – Assistant Auditor

Great Job, Better Future

Ever been curious about how the Defence Force values military assets, how hospitals measure time spent in Emergency Departments, or how councils assess the smoothness of our roads? These are just some of the fascinating areas you could be involved in auditing at the Audit Office.

The Audit Office | Te Mana Arotake is the country's leading public sector auditor, providing independent assurance over public spending and public entities' financial and performance reporting. As the statutory auditor of all public organisations, from councils to schools, our work plays a major part in supporting high-performing and trusted public services.

We're looking for extra graduates for our Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch offices. You'll be starting on a well laid-out career path as we help you qualify as a chartered accountant, including covering fees and providing paid study leave, year-group support, and training. You'll also have a buddy and a mentor, and we've got a great team culture.

If your academic qualification meets the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand provisional requirements for entrance to the Chartered Accountants College, or you meet the requirements for the CA ANZ Foundations programme, you're eligible to apply for our 2027 Graduate Programme. The programme starts on 15 February 2027 with the group induction, where you'll receive training from our specialists and technical experts. You'll also get to work with others in your year group, who you'll rely on for advice and support throughout your entire career.

See our website ao.parliament.nz or our Facebook page to find out more about who we are, what we do, and what we can offer you. Read more – including about staff networks, annual leave, and family benefits – on our website: Benefits for employees — The Audit Office

As an organisation, people matter, our independence is critical, we act with integrity and courage, and we're here to make a difference.

We have a diverse and inclusive team that helps us to understand the issues facing the public sector and how these affect the lives of New Zealanders. We strongly welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to tell us when you apply so that we can assist you through the recruitment process.

For more information, please contact recruitment@ao.parliament.nz

We value originality and effort. Although AI can be helpful in some circumstances, we require you to submit a cover letter and CV that reflects your own voice and experiences.

You must apply online through jobs.govt.nz   including your CV, cover letter, and university transcript  (you'll find the application form and position description there, too).

Applications close Monday 9 November 2026.  Apply now - some locations may close early as we find who we're looking for.

Only apply for your most preferred location – if you're interested in more than one, please include in your application form.
