Analytics and Data Engineers (12-month secondment or fixed term)
The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake aims to improve trust and confidence in public services by giving New Zealanders an independent view of government spending and performance. As the statutory auditor of all public organisations, from councils to schools, the Auditor-General's work plays a major part in ensuring that our public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.
We're looking for an experienced Snowflake Analytics Engineer and a Snowflake and data build tool (dbt) Data Engineer to join our Data and Analytics team. You'll play a key role in a programme focused on providing the data foundations, advanced analytics, and data-sharing capability for the Office of the Auditor-General and Audit New Zealand.
About the role
These are 12-month fixed-term positions in the implementation team for our new data and analytics platform. The roles would suit someone keen to set up our new Snowflake data platform and transform our data and analytics capability. As an Analytics Engineer, you'll be the architect of clean, reliable, and well-documented datasets that power dashboards, models, and strategic decisions. You'll work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to transform complex data into trusted, reusable assets. As a Data Engineer, you'll have experience with all types of structured and unstructured data and be responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines that cross multiple domains.
Both roles will work closely with the Data Platform and Integration Lead, Engineers, and Analytical Product Lead. We're looking for applicants with a drive to ensure public organisations are spending taxpayers' money effectively and efficiently, and experience in New Zealand's public sector.
To succeed as an Analytics Engineer, you'll have:
- Strong experience in analytical product development, ideally in data and analytics or technology-focused programmes.
- Proficiency in Snowflake, Python, and Streamlit.
- Understanding of data governance, lineage, and documentation best practices.
To succeed as a Data Engineer, you'll have:
- Strong experience in ELT development and CI/CD practice, ideally in data and analytics or technology-focused programmes.
- Proficiency in SQL, Jinja, and Python.
- Strong data governance, management, and quality practices.
Ideally, you'll also have a good knowledge of:
- financial data and non-financial performance data; and
- the machinery of government and its accountability mechanisms and audit.
