The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has established itself as an agency with a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand and providing better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and for the New Zealand economy.

Our General Counsel function enables and supports the FMA in promoting and facilitating the development of fair, efficient and transparent markets through the provision of holistic, pragmatic and high quality legal and policy advice required by the FMA to achieve its objectives, while also providing independent assurance that internal processes are operating effectively.

As part of the General Counsel function within FMA, our Enforcement team is responsible for all legal matters pertaining to FMA enforcement action in response to misconduct and contraventions of the law/professional standards within the financial markets.

Our Enforcement team is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Intermediate Solicitor, to join their Wellington based team. In this role you'll provide high quality legal advice and apply your expertise in litigation or regulatory enforcement to ensure the FMA's goals are achieved, and that the enforcement function reinforces the FMA's reputation as an effective, proactive and respected organisation.

This role is ideally suited to a highly motivated intermediate level solicitor with a background in regulatory enforcement or litigation and an interest in the financial sector. Your tertiary qualification in law, (ideally gained with Honours) and current practising certificate (or entitlement to one) are pre-requisites for the role. A commerce or business degree will be a real asset. You'll have 3-5 years' post admission experience at a private law firm or regulator, where you have gained a working knowledge of civil procedure (essential) and/or criminal procedure (desirable).
