Job Description

Callaghan Innovation is the government's business innovation agency. We're here to liberate innovators.

We connect businesses to the networks, capability and funding they need to make their ideas happen. We challenge both our customers and New Zealand to step up to the challenge of technological change.

We have more than 200 of New Zealand's leading scientists dedicated to solving tough technical problems, our programmes help hundreds of companies improve their ability to innovate, and we boost business R&D through more than $140m a year in grants.

We have a new Auckland-based position available for a Food Technologist in our Integrated Biotechnologies Group. Our Integrated Biotechnologies Group help businesses to transform biological resources such as meat, dairy, plant and seafood products into high value products that include nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, food ingredients and natural agrochemicals. In this role you will be expected to engage with other RS&T providers in Callaghan Innovation and New Zealand - in particular the FoodBowl and NZ Food Innovation Network. You will also contribute to maintaining and growing our food and beverage capability and to develop new areas of research interest.

If you would like to work in a stimulating, collaborative environment with a dedicated team of scientists, we would like to hear from you.

The successful applicant will ideally possess:

  • a tertiary qualification - preferably post graduate - in Food Technology or a related discipline
  • a proven track record in the operation of food and beverage related facilities and equipment in a research or production environment leading to new product or process development
  • knowledge and experience in scale-up methods
  • experience/willingness to both supervise other scientists and engineers, and to work as a team member
  • experience in food process regulations e.g. HACCP, GMP, RMP/FSP desirable
  • fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential.

This role would suit an early to mid-stage scientist or engineer with commercial experience in Food and Beverage Technology. You need to be highly self-motivated, disciplined, result-oriented, and capable of driving a project from beginning to end.

If you feel you have the drive and skills necessary for this role, then please apply now.
