Ethnic Community Relations Officer

Permanent, Full-time

Remuneration range: $62,791.00 - $91,000.00

The Ethnic Peoples Community Relations Officer presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to be part of a vibrant police team that works closely with our communities to help enhance community safety and wellbeing. This is a full time permanent position.


As a conduit between police and ethnic communities, the successful applicant will form strong ethnic community and stakeholder partnerships as a platform for problem solving, development and management of strategic initiatives that enable people to be and feel safe and deliver outcomes aligned with the Police Ethnic Strategy and Our Business.


Interacting positively across wide cultural groups and peoples; providing expert guidance, advice and training to staff on matters pertinent to communities; facilitating and maintaining formal relationships between communities and police management; incorporating communities' perspectives into police policies, projects and responses; awareness and identification of matters of both local and national significance that may impact on local communities and police; assisting with  recruitment - are some of the areas of work that will be undertaken in this role.

  • Show strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in interacting with and responding to differences and diversity.
  • Work effectively independently, with teams and in wider partnerships

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver effective community training, seminars and initiatives.


Experience - you will have:

  • Successfully established relationships across a diverse range of community partners.
  • Experience partnering with others on community based initiatives.
  • Developed, delivered and managed successful projects and initiatives.
  • Good time management and an ability to encourage timeliness from others in order to achieve outcomes.


Special Requirements

  • Must hold full NZ drivers licence
  • Must have the ability to obtain and hold an appropriate security clearance
  • You must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
