Fixed Term, Part-Time

Salary Range $51,449 - $69,605

Every year the New Zealand Police Dog Training Centre is required to breed around 80 pups to meet the demand for Police Dogs nationally and internationally.  We are also required to kennel dogs and provide follow up support and training to the fosters of our breeding stock.


The Police Dog Training Centre requires a suitable person to work in a fixed term 5 year contract role, for 20 hours per week, as a Kennel and Breeding Person. This person must be highly motivated and have suitable experience and skills relating to the care and management of dogs.


The successful applicant will be required to work in all areas relating to breeding, kennelling, and fostering. However the primary portfolio for this position will be assisting in the Breeding Centre which includes the care of breeding dogs, whelping and care of pups, administration requirements and maintenance of that facility.


Skills and experience - you will need to be able to:

  • Demonstrate experience relating to the effective control and handling of dogs
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of dog welfare, breeding and development
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to liaise effectively with health care professionals and breeding specialists

Special requirements:

  • Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia to apply for this position
  • Applicants must satisfactory meet the Police vetting & reference check requirements
  • Full New Zealand Driver License
  • Qualified Veterinary Nurse or equivalent qualification
  • Must be able to do shift work
  • Must be physically capable of handling large high drive dogs

  • The successful applicant must reside in Wellington
  • Please note the salary advertised is the full time equivalent and will be pro-rated as this is a part time position
