Media Advisor/Senior Media Advisor

New Zealand Police

Permanent, Full-Time

New Zealand Police is seeking talented people to join the Police Media Centre in Wellington at both a Senior Advisor and an Advisor level.

 

Police has the largest media demand of any individual Government department in New Zealand. The Police Media Centre provides a service to both the media and police staff.

 

Police are in the news every day and our vision is to have the trust and confidence of all. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast paced, ever changing environment where each day is different.

 

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for: 

  • Liaising with media and police staff on a wide range of operational issues and investigations
  • Providing comment on Police policy and practice
  • Looking for proactive opportunities to tell our stories, including through social media which contribute to our purpose of being safe and feeling safe

 

The position is shift based, and you will be part of a roster which includes early, late and weekend shifts. Short notice travel to Police districts is also required during major responses and operations.

 

You will have a genuine desire to contribute to the work of New Zealand Police, be resilient and able to juggle rapidly changing priorities.

 

This role may suit those already in a media liaison role, or current journalists wishing to develop their career.

 

Skills and experience - to excel in this role, you will have:

  • A strong knowledge of the current media and social media environment
  • A sound understanding of media requirements paired with excellent writing skills and a sense of what makes a good story
  • The ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with journalists, police staff and other agencies
  • A good working knowledge of social media channels and their use for proactive communications

 

Additional information:

  • Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia to apply for this position
  • Applicants must satisfactory meet the Police vetting & reference check requirements
  • The successful applicant must reside in Wellington
  • Salary range for Media Advisor is $67,261 - $91,000
  • Salary range for Senior Media Advisor is $87,605 - $118,526
